A stronger state corn checkoff program should be in place starting July 1 after the Indiana General Assembly voted in favor of Senate Bill 250 on April 28. The bill allows for a farmer-controlled corn marketing council to manage funds that will be automatically collected at the time of sale.
Farmers not wishing to participate in the program will have the right to a full refund. The funds will be used for corn promotion, education, and research into new uses for corn and corn co-products.
